Teaching with Few or No Words

Michio once gave a cooking class in Level IV. He brought me up to be his assistant. He brought the water to a boil and added the udon. Then he stood there and watched it boil. That was it. That was the lesson. He didn’t stir, he didn’t tap his foot, he just waited. When he tested it and it was done, he drained it out.

After many years of studying with Michio and his wonderful teachers in Brookline, Mass., I returned to Israel to counsel and teach. I saw him again after 17 years at a summer conference. He looked right at me and said, “Much better.” I was pleased.
