Michio Kushi lecturing

Opening quotation from Michio Kushi and summary of the program by Alex Jack.

In honor of his centennial, Alex Jack will present a special tribute to Michio Kushi, leader of the modern macrobiotic community.

Inspired by the atomic bombing of Hiroshima and Nagasaki, the young Michio dedicated his life to finding a practical path toward universal health and peace. From his early years in Boston—where he and his wife Aveline Kushi helped launch the modern natural foods movement with Erewhon—to the founding of the East West Foundation, East West Journal, and Kushi Institute, and culminating in recognition by the Smithsonian Institution and the United States Congress, Alex’s inspiring talk will highlight the remarkable life, work, and legacy of Michio Kushi.

Gayle Stolove, a popular macrobiotic cook and cancer survivor, had the pleasure of cooking for Michio Kushi many times over the years. He loved her food—and especially her wholesome tiramisu.

In this special cooking class, Gayle will demonstrate her rich, creamy, and delicious macrobiotic version (including gluten-free!) of the classic Italian dessert that became one of Michio’s favorites.

Join us for this commemorative cooking class, offered in gratitude for Michio’s life, legacy, and love of good food.

Stories, memories, and personal tributes from longtime students, friends, and leaders in the macrobiotic community whose lives and work were deeply touched by Michio Kushi. Together, their reflections will offer a warm and living portrait of Michio’s influence, from the early days of macrobiotics in America to its growth as an international movement for health, peace, and One Peaceful World.

Alex and Danka Jack will announce the new recipient of the Michio Kushi Peace Prize, recognizing a person whose dedication and service carry forward Michio’s lifelong vision of universal health, peace, and planetary harmony.

They will also offer a brief preview of the Online Macrobiotic Summer Conference 2026, including some of the teachers, classes, and special themes you can look forward to this summer.

Verne Varona will offer a warm, humorous, and affectionate tribute, bringing Michio’s unforgettable presence, voice, and spirit to life in a lighthearted remembrance.

We will close with a prayer from Michio Kushi, honoring his lifelong dedication to peace, gratitude, and universal harmony.

The mini-conference will conclude with the One Peaceful World Song as composed and sung by Ed Esko.
